BevBaccala What are you doing for lifelong learning? 4 Apr 19 2012, 12:36 PM EDT by MHayslette

It's too quiet on this WVABE Wiki. I'd like to challenge instructors to share some ideas about lifelong learning.
1) What are you doing to keep your brain healthy and nimble?
2) Have you participated in any formal learning activities for work and/or for fun that were not WVABE sponsored? If so, was the learning face-to-face or online?
3) Tell us about something new you've learned in the last week!

helenaellis Learning to play BRIDGE 2 Apr 19 2012, 12:32 PM EDT by MHayslette

I spent five hours this week-end learning to play Bridge. What a complicated card game! Three friends and had a great Saturday afternoon learning and stretching my brain. One of the friends took on the monumental task to teach us the basics of Bridge. Making the deck instead of shuffling? Proper "Bridge etiquette". Bidding, leading, the dummy, tricks. So many new terms that I have never used, at least in the context of Bridge. It really challenged my mind because it required learning a new game, remembering what others played, learning the stradegies of the game, learning the value of the cards. We will be meeting once per week so we don't forget what we have already learned and of course, to socialize and have fun. It was a great experience.

DHHR paperwork for refered students is beginning to consume a lot of instructor time. In addition we averaging 20+ intakes every intake session. Students are popping up from everywhere. We have doubled the size of the class space and our enrollment has tripled. We're doing the best job possible and going broke. Instructors are getting burned out..........How can i help them???
